Sleep Disorder Dentistry
Sleep Disorder Dentistry is an emerging field of dentistry concentrating on the reduction of patients’ respiratory distress resulting from Sleep Breathing Disorder – i.e. Snoring and OSA (Obstructive Sleep Apnea)
If you suffer from OSA, your airway loses its strength and collapses in on itself while you sleep. The narrowed or completely closed airway doesn’t allow enough oxygen into your body. Left untreated OSA can result in Hypertension, Coronary Artery Disease, and Stroke.
How do we treat OSA?
We use Airway Orthotics instead of the cumbersome CPAP or surgery. An oral appliance is much like an athletic mouth guard but not as thick. In order to fit an oral appliance correctly, we perform a quick and painless test using Pharyngometry via the Eccovision System. This is an assessment tool employing “Acoustic Reflection” technology. The tools map the nasal and pharyngeal airways, respectively, producing graphs pinpointing the trouble spots of collapse in the airway.
